Why Include Indigenous Perspectives

Our Perspective On Teaching Indigenous Perspectives

Educating students about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures highlights the significance of caring for the land and respecting local traditions. By learning about Indigenous Australian practices, students can grasp the importance of environmental stewardship and understand the negative consequences of neglecting the land. This knowledge helps ensure that future generations can also appreciate and enjoy their local environments. The AITSL standards can inform our teaching practices by creating initiatives so that students can understand Indigenous culture better. It will also make us create better teaching strategies that will implement growth in how equitable the learning and education we provide is. Getting the community involved in the education of Indigenous topics, such as bringing in Indigenous educators is a strategy I can use to better educate myself and the students.

All educators within the company are to respect Aboriginal cultures and the land they work on. By gaining knowledge and experience off of other staff members and the Aboriginal People we work with. Educators go through a range of trainings to first build their personal knowledge of Aboriginal Cultures before educating others on them which aligns with 1.4 of the AITSL.  â€‹
